Happy Easter, everyone!
Okay, there were some changes to my schedule last week that I was too lazy to update on.
On Thursday, I was hanging out with Lembo at The Office watching some basketball. I got a voicemail from Company B telling me that that the manager with who (whom?) I am supposed to meet on Friday is going to be out of town and can't meet with me until NEXT THURSDAY. As in the 27th. I was so frustrated. I'm STILL frustrated. Ugh! Then, around 4, I get a call from one of my references in Atlanta. She told me that the manager had called her to find out about me and she gave him a glowing review. So much, in fact, that when they were getting off the phone he said, "I think I'm going to offer her the job tomorrow."
So you all see my frustration. It's bad enough that they were putting me off a week when Steve had me convinced that I was getting the job. But now knowing that the manager told my reference he was going to offer me the job, then called me and pushed back the day....UGH! I was hoping to have secured a job and be looking for apartments right now. Steve keeps telling me that I have the job, but he's not the one making the decisions, so I won't believe that until I have an offer. And if they are going to offer me the job, can they at least tell me that over the phone???
Just a side note--I'm watching Flight of the Navigator right now. Awesome 80s movie. Totally forgot that Sarah Jessica Parker and the teacher from Head of the Class are in it. Oh and Pee-Wee Herman did the voice of Max. Good stuff.
So anyway, the job situation is at a halt. It's doubly frustrating because Sawyer's sister (whose room I am staying in) is going to be home for spring break on Apr 5th, so I was hoping to be outta here by then. But Nancy's parents have kindly offered to put me up if that's not the case. :)
So Thursday night we went to a bar called Blend in Ridgewood (http://www.blendbar.com/home.htm --it really doesn't look that great in person) to see this cover band called The Nerds (http://www.the-nerds.com/). I had heard about them for years, but never seen them play. When I say they are the best cover band I have ever seen, I am not exaggerating. They play EVERYTHING. If you're in the Jersey area and you've never seen them, I highly recommend it!
So Friday Steve and I went to Hooters for some basketball while Sawyer burned some calories for all 3 of us at the gym. He went to St Joes, so he was pulling for his team in the 7p game, while I was waiting for my Tigers to play around 10. Unfortunately, we both went home disappointed. However, I wasn't surprised. At all. Our Tigers choke, that's what they do. And of course I was stuck sitting in a room with about 45 Nova fans. but I think they were just so stunned to actually see someone from Clemson sitting there that they were all actually very nice to me.
So while we're on the topic of the tourney, let's discuss my future husband, Stephen (pronounced Steffen) Curry of Davidson. Forget my bracket, I'm all about Davidson. I had the privilege of watching Curry play when my dad took me to a game back in January. At the half, Curry alone had outscored the opposing team. I'm not even a big basketball fan, yet I'm so taken with this kid's talent. He's just so smooth and effortless on the court. And he's not bad on the eyes either! So far in the tourney he scored 40 points against Gonzaga and 30 points against Georgetown, a #2 seed. Davidson's seed? #10! And as Dick Vitale said, every shot he scored was a "must-score" shot. Five out of six free throws in the last 23 seconds against Georgetown! Seriously! He's the Derek Jeter of NCAA basketball---Clutch Curry.
But you know what the best part about this story is? The schools that didn't want him. Particularly VA Tech. VA Tech is pretty pissed that they didn't get to put on their dancing shoes. Maybe if they had offered Curry, a VA Tech legacy (both parents), a starting spot on the team, they wouldn't have much to whine about now. Talk about vindication. And even better, this isn't just Curry showing off for the big stage. He plays like this all season. So if you haven't watched Davidson this season, give them a look. Curry is #30. And even if they lose, keep an eye on him next year.
That's my sports rant for the day.
Random thought: ever see those commercials for Guitar Hero with Slash from Guns n' Roses? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=u6X0YtvKwy8) Does it make you wonder if he would even be any good at the actual game? My guess is no.
So tomorrow I'm meeting my friend Blair for drinks in the city along with her friend who also works at Company B. maybe she can give me some dirt! Later in the week is my (hopefully final) interview with Company B and then I'm having lunch with my friend Mike from camp who was laid off around the same time I was. Consider it a pink slip party. :)
So that's about it for now. I'm guessing it will be a slow week, so maybe I can actually read more than 20 pages of Fried Green Tomatoes and get on to another book! Maybe Atonement since the movie was supposed to be so good. We'll see. :)
Hope everyone is well!
