That pretty much sums up my weekend. So here's my pic with some sailors I met. Don't remember their names. It's not important. I bought them each a beer to thank them for serving our country. This pic was taken Sunday night. Sunday freaking night. That was the first encounter I had with sailors. Then again, I don't exactly hang out in Times Square, so maybe that's why.

Apparently some marines were in town for Fleet Week as well. I saw some walking through the park and took a pic.
Anyway, let's go back to the beginning of the weekend. Friday I got out of work at 1 and it was an absolutely gorgeous day out. I mean, you couldn't have dreamed up better weather for Memorial Day Weekend. So I walked to the 4 train from the office instead of taking the subway and had a hot dog. I swear, if hot dogs weren't so terrible for you I would just live on a diet of hot dogs. At only $2 a pop, it would be nice and cheap. But then I would be dead in about a week.
So I finally made the trip to Greenberg's Bakery for the "best black and white cookie in New York." They did not disappoint. I was a little skeptical at first. I mean, they were pre-made and wrapped in plastic. And they were $3.50. A hot dog is cheaper! Anyway, my doubts were erased as I traveled off to black and white heaven. Holy crap it was good. Mike, I will do my best to bring some home for Thanksgiving. Or maybe if you're really good, I'll mail it to you. ;) So Greenberg's gets my vote for best black and white. Now I'll have to try the best pizza in town!
Speaking of pizza, I've decided God must be upset with me about something. There is no other logical reason why there would be a pizza place next to my gym. And if any of you have smelt (smelled?) a NY Pizza place, then you know how hard it is to not run in and grab a slice every time you walk by. Who knows, maybe I'll get used to it, but it's been a month of a half of working in the city and walking by pizza places several times a day and I still have to use willpower.
Anyway, Saturday morning I went to the gym and then to "drunk brunch" with my roommate Jessica and her friends at Blind Pig down by NYU. There were about 10 of us. So the brunch is $12.99, or you can pay $19.99 and you get unlimited mimosas or bloody marys. Nice! So needless to say, this being a "drunk brunch," we all went for the $19.99 brunch. The food was not so great, and the drinks were really weak. And our waitress was totally bi-polar. But that's a whole other story. Each of us probably had 7 or 8 drinks each and I don't think anyone felt a buzz. I know I didn't. But needless to say, it was still fun. And if we had just been drinking soda, it would have cost more since refills aren't free here, folks!
That night Tina came in from the dirty Jerz. My first visitor, yay! She hadn't eaten yet, so I was able to use this as a great excuse to have some pizza since it was cheap and quick (and I had been to the gym two days in a row, so I deserved it!). So we go back to my place for a few beer and then Amy comes over. We have a few cocktails before heading down to Murray Hill. I had yet to go out in Murray Hill so I was psyched. We went to Third and Long where while in the ladies' room, I heard some chick on the phone. With her mom. It was like 1130. Seriously? And she wasn't even having an important conversation. It was like, "Mom, can you believe she said that? I mean really, who does she think she is? And then I told her..." So then Amy goes to check this out. She comes back and says she heard the girl say, "Okay, mom, I'll call you later." Later? If I told my mom I would call her later when it was already 1130 at night, she'd probably say, "Yeah, you do that" and turn off all the phones in the house. And I wouldn't blame her one bit. Anyway, here's a pic of the three of us at Third and Long.
So after Third and Long, we hit up Kavanagh's, but it was dead. So we went to this place called Joshua Tree which was packed. However, we decided it was a little too packed despite the great selection of 80s music and several marines. Good thing we left because it turns out my Coors Lite draft was $7. What?! This place was not posh at all. At Third and Long, it was $4. And what's weird is that in comparison, Tina and Amy were drinking liquor, and their drinks were only $8. Anyway, we went back up to the UES and headed home around 2 or so I thought. I texted to Amy to let me know that she got home safe. She went to another bar! I just don't have it in me. I'm like Cinderella. The clock strikes 2 and I'm out.
Anyway, Saturday morning Tina and I were up pretty early getting ready for our day at the park. We got cold cuts, snacks, beer, soda, punch, Frisbee and wiffle ball. We were set! We headed over to Sheep Meadow and set our stuff up. Unfortunately, I don't know the layout of Sheep Meadow just yet, so we were chilling with the families, but no biggie. We ended up with a mini-camp reunion, I had some friends from high school stop by and Tina had some of her friends as well. After 6 hours or so, we finally packed it in and headed back to my place to head out for the night.
We headed out to Mercury Bar on the west side because Mike guaranteed us there would be sailors. There weren't. Until like 1215 when I took the above picture. Anyway, like clockwork, I started to shut down around 2. Thank goodness Tina was ready to go as well! can I just tell you that I love love LOVE that cabs now take credit cards? Greatest thing ever.
So here's Tina, Mike and me enjoying our sailor-free evening (for the most part).

The next day Tina and I dragged our hungover selves to a diner down the street for some much needed greasy food. Ellie called me on the way there and told me about a street fair over on Madison. Tina was down for staying the whole day, so we packed up and headed over to the fair. Your typical NYC stuff, t-shirts, food, posters, jewelry, etc. It was freaking hot, I have to tell you. And it was only 75 degrees! So we milled around the fair for a while and then we headed back over to the park, this time for an alcohol-free afternoon. Mike showed up as well as a few other people. They offered us alcohol and I think I heard my liver cry. No more! Anyway, we all packed it up around 5 and headed home. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I fell asleep in front of the TV at 830p. I'm old. Crap.

Hi Sue,
Cute photo! Nice of you to buy beers for them. A girl I work with had some sailor pics as well and I showed her yours. She thought yours were much cuter than hers, who were nameless as well ;)
oops, sorry, that last "anonymous" comment was from me!
:) Noreen
I'll have to hit up that black and white place. Megan and I are black and white fans too. They were the dessert at our wedding, besides the cake of course.
