New York is the biggest city in the world. There's like 15-20 million people in the metro. Always new people to meet. And you would think the chance of running into someone you know would be slim. Well, apparently not.
I went to look at an apartment last night on the UES. Apparently, this is where the rich brats on Gossip Girl live. See, I never watch those teen dramas about annoying rich kids--The Hills (even I know it's scripted), Gossip Girl, Laguna Beach, etc. I went to high school with those types of kids, why would I want to relive it for entertainment purposes? But that's neither here nor there. Oh, and 90210 came out when I was in 6th grade, so that doesn't count.
ANYWAY.
It's on 89th between 1st and York. My friend Lauren lives on 84th York, so it's only a few blocks away. :) When I got there the girl who answered the door, Emily, was the girl whose room I would be subletting because she is moving in with her boyfriend. The apartment was very cute and her roommate Jessica was very nice as well. We start chatting and discover that Emily's boyfriend actually graduated from high school the same year I did. He and I also went to elementary school together! Crazy. We have a bunch of mutual friends as well. So that's just a small world. The third roommate, Bailey was in class, so I wasn't able to meet her. However, she called me last night and we chatted for about 20 minutes and she pretty much said that she doesn't need to meet me (since I'm leaving town tomorrow AM to go to ATL, we wouldn't be able to meet until next week), that she trusts her roommates' judgment and they really liked me. She said she didn't want to tell me for sure that I had the place but I would probably hear from her today. So let's keep our fingers crossed!!
THEN, as if that wasn't enough, this morning as I was getting off the subway, half-asleep, I run smack into Matt, who was my prom date! I haven't seen Matt in probably 4 years. What makes this really weird is that Sawyer and I had been talking about Matt a lot lately. His mom was the director of guidance at RHS and was just hired as the new principal at Sawyer's school. Sawyer got me the scoop last week and it turns out that Matt has a serious girlfriend and his mom expects him to be engaged by the end of the summer. Bummer because he looked great! He's just a cool Irish kid from the Bronx, what else could you ask for!? So hopefully he and I will be getting together in the next few weeks to catch up because I've missed him! I think the last time I saw him was at MacMurphy's in Ridgewood like 4 or 5 years ago and he seriously had our prom picture in his wallet! Ha! And told me that his mom had our prom picture framed in their living room---and it wasn't even HIS prom, he's a year younger! Too funny.
Anyway, it's hard to believe that in a city as big as NY I can keep having these connections. crazy.
In other news, here's a pro for coming back to work for the same company---today was payday and my first check actually went direct deposit. When does that ever happen? Usually it takes like 3 pay cycles or something. And yes, it was really mine. Not like when I went back to work at Christal and ended up with Sue in Chicago's paycheck in my bank account!
Um, okay, update---I actually had to take a break to attend some training session---I HAVE THE APARTMENT! Yay! I apologize if some of you are finding out this way instead of my telling you personally---I just found out about it and I also just found out that I'm booked solid this afternoon with training when I thought I would be wide open! D'oh!
All right, it's lunch time and I need to shoot out some emails and figure a few things out.
I need a new book!!! :(

Congrats SUE!!!! That is awesome news! You will be glad you toughed it out until you could live in the city. The walk to subway will be a pain in the ass but it is still WELL WORTH IT! Congrats again!
Hi Sue,
If you haven't read it, I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger right now and would recommend.
Congrats on the apt!
