Sleepy Girl

So after two and a half months of lounging around (whilst looking for jobs, of course), going back to work has come as a shock to me physically. Or maybe it's the walking to the bus then walking from the port authority to the office. I'm not used to so much physical activity before, oh, say, 6PM.

So I started my day at 545a to my cell phone's alarm tone of Tiger Rag (for you non-Clemson folk, that's our fight song). I think I have to change it. If not, I will hate Clemson in all of it's orange glory with every bone in my body. Which I'm actually close to after our dismal choking in the NCAA tourney, so I don't need anymore ammo. So I'm open to suggestions for a new ring tone to wake up. Oh, and those of you with blackberries, check out tuneusin.com on your phone's browser. You can download songs for free. And yes, Tiger Rag is one of them. And it sounds amazing when it's not waking you up at 545A.

Anyway, I walked to the bus since the weather is pretty nice now. It's a little under a mile. I managed to catch the 163 Express and ended up in the city by 736a. Really. It took barely a half hour to get there. But the funny thing about commuting into NY is that if I had caught the bus right afterwards, I wouldn't have made it in until 915a. Okay, not really. But anyway. since I had all this time on my hands I decided to stroll from the portauthority on 41st and 8th to my office on 55th and 7th. it's about a mile. I still had 40 minutes before I was due at work and I managed to snag every red light. So I went to my home away from home, Starbucks, and read a book. A damn good one, see below for info.

So work was good. People are nice, whatever. I don't have my email set up yet or a computer for that matter since I'm working in research. I may not have email for the next week or so since it's not a priority right now. The desk I'm at is in the research division and then they'll move me over to my team when I'm done. So the computer that I will be using isn't even mine. This is no big deal, just wanted to let you all know so if you don't get the super speedy response from me to which you are now accustomed, I apologize. If I'm up to it, I'll get you back on my commute home or when I get back to the 'Wood. (for those of you not in the Jersey know, that's Ridgewood. Yeah, you wish you lived here, you know it.)

So all is good with work, it's just the commute that's killer. But I'll adjust. and the walking will do me good. eventually. And yes, I'm wearing sneakers and look like a total douchebag, but after the stress fracture in my foot from two years ago when I traipsed around the city in flip-flops for a month---well, no thanks. So I'd rather be Douchey McDouche (that's MISS McDouche to you) than be in that excruciating pain ever again.

Okay, so now I come to a dilemma I am facing and I need some feedback. So please feel free to email, comment, text, call, whatever. I've been looking for apartments in the city. I actually went in last night to check out this place in Murray Hill on 34th and Lex. Great apartment. Incredible neighborhood. The girls seemed pretty nice too. They all went to MIT, so my Clemson education seemed kind of lame in comparison, but I can always teach them about football. And just a side note, despite all those assumptions that people at MIT are unattractive, both these girls were very cute. Anyway, it was an open house, and they were expecting like 20 people. So the chances are pretty slim. So here's where my dilemma comes. Mrs. A (who I'm staying with) has a friend whose daughter is looking for a roommate. She actually was a year behind me in high school and I vaguely remember her. Nance says she's a very nice girl and I trust her opinion. The rent is only $800. Yeah. $800. So what's the problem? It's in Hoboken. And I've had my heart set on living in the city. I feel like if I don't do it now, I'll never do it. But only $800 a month is hard to pass up. My apartment in Buckhead last year was more than that. So I'm torn. Because most the places I'm looking at in the city are between $1100-$1200. So that extra $300-$400 a month is HUGE. And I can still sell my car in Hoboken.

Thoughts? The responsible girl in me is leaning towards Hoboken--normal roommate, cheap rent, great views of NYC from Frank Sinatra Blvd.....but I still really want to live in the city--location, nightlife, most of my friends....help!!! I actually may be getting ahead of myself though. I just emailed the girl and for all Mrs A knew was that the girl may have found someone. So we'll see. I think if she says she's still looking for a roommate and I check the place out and all is good, I'll just go for it. I can't sit around and wait for an NYC apartment that may never materialize.

Okay, after this long day, I need to get to bed. I can barely keep my eyes open!

Oh, and another thing....apparently since I left my company, they have since blocked blogger, facebook, and pretty much anything that's worth surfing. So the blog may cease to exist once I get an apartment since I don't have a computer of my own. but if I take the Hoboken apartment and sell my car, I could easily afford a computer. But we'll see.

Good night!

Don't fall into the trap. Buck up and pay extra to live in the city... you will 100% REGRET it if you don't. Worst case scenario you get a side job on the weekends like many people do but it is well worth it for the experience. Have you checked Sty town near union Square or exhausted craigslist?
