I have been sleeping on an aero bed. Now, I am typically a fan of the aero bed. I slept on one when I first moved to Atlanta; waiting on my furniture to be delivered. As far as air mattresses go, they're not too bad. However, this one I have now has somehow sprung a leak and I can't figure out where. They provide you with a patch in the event that this does happen; but that's useless to me because I have no idea where the leak is. All the same, it's not terrible. I just have to pump it with more air in the middle of the night. Okay, maybe it is terrible.
So you can understand how excited I was to be getting my bed. Yippee!

Nice, right? WAY better than an aero bed (with a leak in it). So the bed was scheduled to be delivered yesterday, between the hours of 11a and 3p. My boss was nice enough to let me work from home after 1030a. I was already in a panic because I had a 12n deadline for about 3 different projects (avails for those of you in the business) that had been sent to me at 9a. We had an 845a sales meeting that lasted until about 10a, THEN we had a freaking fire drill. So I was panicking, trying to get everything done and out the door by 1030. I succeeded, but barely. So I was home by 11. Of course, the shipment doesn't show up until 255p. Thanks for that, guys. In the meantime, I was able to do a load of laundry and make a stop at the dry cleaners. So it wasn't all that terrible. Anyway, the delivery guys get there and I was so excited, I was like a kid on Christmas. Until they asked me to sign and I said, "Where's my mattress?" The delivery guy pointed to this rolled up mattress that could not possibly be a queen. It wasn't. It was a twin. And not even the kind of mattress I ordered. Bailey could see me starting to lose it, so she quietly left the room. I was calm, though. It wasn't the delivery guys' fault. They're just a delivery company hired by IKEA. And he felt so bad. So I refused the mattress and got on the phone with IKEA.
The first time I called, the woman said she had to transfer me to another department. When she did this, I got a busy signal. So I called again. A different woman said the same thing and transferred me. I was on hold for 20 minutes before I hung up because my laundry had been sitting in the dryer downstairs for nearly two hours. So I came back upstairs and called again. I was on hold for only 10 minutes when I was told that I had exceeded the wait limit. Uh, shouldn't I be the one to decide that? So I had to leave a voicemail. A VOICEMAIL. I have no freaking mattress and I have to leave a voicemail?! So I did, and not a very cheerful one at that; and then went on their website to see about contacting them via email. So I submitted my inquiry through their website and then I saw an email address I could contact as well. So I have contacted them three ways about their SNAFU and it's 10A now and they have yet to contact me. IKEA, you suck. Your customer service sucks. I'm going to Pier 1 next time.
Fortunately I live with a very nice roommate who has a serious boyfriend, so she sleeps at his place a lot. So I've been sleeping in her bed for most of the week including last night. But like I said, I at least got to get some laundry done, hit the cleaners, and got to hit up a class at the gym that I normally would never make it home in time for. So I'm trying to find the silver lining.
Aside from all that drama, I wanted to share my events from Tuesday night. My manager asked myself and another co-worker to take some clients out to dinner. We went to an Italian restaurant in the Village called Villa Mosconi. When I say I had the best chicken marsala I've ever had, I'm not even exaggerating. It was amazing. I cleaned my plate. After dinner, our client suggested Club Macanudo, a cigar bar on 63rd and Madison. Now, smoking is no longer allowed at bars in NYC, but apparently there's some loophole about being "grandfathered in". Not quite sure how it works.
Anyway, after one drink at Club Macanudo, our client said he had been hoping for live music, so we called another cigar bar, Carnegie Club. Turns out they had an 11-piece orchestra with a jazz singer. So we headed over there. The band was phenomenal. The music was great, the beer was cold, the only problem was the cigar smell. But, these are the sacrifices I make. ;)
So I got home around 11 and had to shower immediately. I swear, I don't know how smokers handle smelling like that every day. It's just gross. And despite the fact that I scrubbed my scalp for a good ten minutes, I felt like I could still smell it in my hair. And don't get me started on my clothes. Hence the need for laundry and a trip to the cleaners yesterday.
Headed to Charleston for Haas' wedding this weekend! Will post pics when I get back. Everyone have a great weekend!
